An escape to the north
“Suspended in Space” is a short film from two-time Cannes YDA-nominated director Cameron Thuman, created as a nationwide collaboration to advocate the northern charm of the Yukon Territory. The film was developed in partnership with Travel Yukon, Air North, Yukon Heliski, and HeliCat Canada.
SHORT FILM
“Suspended in Space” portrays two skiers entranced in time as the frozen winterscape of the Yukon Territory awakens their souls. The film was captured at Yukon Heliski in White Pass, Yukon Territory, in the international territories of TRTFN, CTFN, and CAFN.
WORLD PREMIERE
“Suspended in Space” held its world premiere at Whistler Film Festival this past December, where it was greeted by two sold-out screenings. The film will continue its festival tour into 2024 with select screenings across North America and Europe.
The stage was set: single-digit temperatures, a five-person crew, and nearly 3,000 miles of travel. “Suspended in Space” is a soulful sabbatical from our large-scale productions and a testament to the storytelling and cinematic quality NativeFour delivers amidst the most challenging conditions.

talent partnerships
Tapping into NativeFour’s following, we identified two professional athletes who elevated the film’s storyline and core objectives. “Suspended in Space” stars Swedish skier Kajsa Larsson and Canadian skier Celeste Pomerantz.
“Suspended in Space” is a melodic dream… a trance that stops time to take you for a ride. It’s a pleasure to direct these annual winter films with NativeFour and collaborate with a team of filmmakers who work at the highest calling.

We set out to immerse the viewer in a sonic experience of the physical space. We oscillated between a crisp stillness and a marked intensity, as the skiers carve the landscape with bursts of textured sound and energy. In the quiet reflective moments, we focused on cerebral flourishes to enhance the magic of the environment. The sound alternates between hyper-real diegetic design and cerebral introspection and exhilaration.

Maneuvering on mountain and hopping out of helis required us to create a compact yet tasteful camera setup. We shot on the RED Raptor VV with Zerø Optik rehoused Olympus OMs. The glass is stunning and casts a beautiful distortion on the wider ends. In post, we worked with Parker Jarvie at Company 3, who gave the visuals the final touch.
